Especially in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the proliferation of low-quality assays and many clinical unknowns have led to controversies about the utility of SARS-CoV-2 serology assays. This workshop aims to present current guidelines and best practices around the use of these tests:
- In clinical practice as an aid in diagnosis/ staging of COVID-19 or post-acute COVID-19 syndromes
- For public health surveillance of the pandemic and effectiveness of control measures
- For research studies investigating the magnitude and durability of immune responses to natural infection and vaccination

Sepsis is a condition in which the whole body is infected with microorganisms and has a serious inflammatory reaction. The failure to perform proper treatment can result in disability, shock, or death. We will share the result of clinical trials conducted for sepsis diagnosis, and we will share how this study has been applied to sepsis management in our hospitals. We also explore how 24/7 laboratory operations have a positive impact on patient care.

Challenges in the coagulation laboratory
The inherent challenge of the coagulation test is that the coagulation events in vivo and in vitro are not identical. Despite the elaborate guidelines and technological advances to overcome this limitation, the diagnosis of coagulation disease remains a challenge. In this session, we will first discuss ways to guarantee relevance of the coagulation test by enhancing the understanding of the preanalytical variable of coagulation testing. Next, we would like to review the updated findings on Von Willebrand disease, which is known as the most common bleeding disorder but difficult to diagnose. Lastly, we would like to discuss the difficulties in the establishment of therapeutic range of heparin, an everlasting major component of the initial treatment of thrombotic diseases.
